Today, I thought
I'd launch with the pandemonium that I (and no doubt you) found this morning, and why you need to fill out your delay and repay form!
No trains, overhead line problems and the dreaded words that no commuter wants to
hear...rail replacement. The sheer
terror was then overtaken by shock as I saw a queue through the car park, back
into the station in order to get the bus.
I'd like to know
the percentage of people who turned around at that bleak point and thought 'sod
it' but I was pleasantly surprised by your warrior spirits/fear of being
shouted at by bosses/general persistence.
I like to see people's reactions, a man shouting, a woman hawking about
having to buy her ticket as well as queue for a bus. I hold out, wait,
contemplate a bus or just be patient for the train - the dilemma and it's only 7.14am. I decide to
finally go for the bus - to be told trains are back on. I get on a train - that stops at Liverpool Street only (I get off
at Stratford) but oh well, beggars can't be choosers apparently (even if you do
pay more than £400 a month for a ticket)
I'm standing, I
get hot, everyone standing around me is hot, I'm the furthest away to seats but
I shout out to ask everyone to open the windows ... Now here is another weird thing
about you commuters, I'm sure you are all functional people, who can talk,
walk, open stuff. Nonetheless, when you get on the train you become zombies,
who can't hear, who ignore people, and behave in such a weird manner that it
took a second shout out from myself "don't all rush at once" for you to ACTUALLY act on it,
and still, you look at me as if I'm speaking Russian. Fellow standers who were
apparently 'too embarrassed to admit they were hot' (what do you do in your
houses? Or other social situations?) thank me. I feel a minute achievement, but
a general disappointment with the human race, but at least I'm no longer
sweltering, and we started to move, with some fresh air.
I could moan in
intricate detail about this journey, but I won't harp on. The one thing I do
ask of you is to fill out your delay and repay forms (don't worry it's online,
no confrontation, and you don't have to speak to anyone - a commuter's dream
no?!!)
Delay and repay because:
1) today we were
over 60 minutes late so you will get a full refund on your fare
2) we all
need to rally together to prove a point that the service is not as slick as it
should be - and the only way to hurt people is through companies' pockets
3) there is nothing more satisfying than receiving a voucher in the post - and trust me, it adds up
So click on the
link : you have a month to do it : go go go!!
How have you felt that new takeover company Greater Anglia has dealt with delays? An improvement on National Express?
Happy travelling!
Give delay-repay.com a try, we've tried to cut out as much as the form filling as possible.
